Tokyo Ham Fair

Asia's largest amateur radio event, held annually in Tokyo. Features manufacturer exhibits from Icom, Yaesu, and Kenwood (all Japanese companies), plus flea markets and technical presentations.

JA Call Signs

Japanese amateurs use JA, JH, JR, JE, JF, JG, JI, JJ, JK, JL, JM, JN, JO, JP, JQ, JS, 7J, 7K, 7L, 7M, 7N prefixes. The number after the prefix indicates the call area (0-9).

Australia & New Zealand

Wireless Institute of Australia. Founded in 1910, making it one of the oldest radio societies in the world. Coordinates amateur radio licensing, contests, and emergency communications in Australia. VK prefix.

Annual contest for contacts with Oceania stations. Separate phone and CW weekends in October. A good way to work VK and ZL stations from outside the region.

IARU Region 3

IARU Region 3 covers the Asia-Pacific area including East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Oceania. The region coordinates band plans and represents amateur interests to telecommunications regulators across the Asia-Pacific.

Asia-Pacific amateurs participate in many international contests, and several countries have their own active contest programs. The All Asian DX Contest, JIDX, and Oceania DX Contest are popular regional events.
